Parade Night on Las Olas Isles Comes Down to Which Side of the Bridge You're On

October 29, 2026

The official viewing area for the 2026 Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade is close to Las Olas Isles. It sits at Las Olas Intracoastal Promenade Park, 80 Las Olas Circle, on the southeast corner where Las Olas Boulevard meets the Intracoastal. On a normal Saturday you could walk there from the Isles before your coffee cooled.

December 12 is different. The Las Olas Boulevard bridge closes to cars at about 6:30 p.m. and doesn't reopen until about 8:30 p.m. Winterfest's viewing area guidance says the bridge "will be locked open for the duration of the Parade" and tells guests to be on the east side of it by 6:00 p.m. For anyone living on the mainland side, the season's biggest night on the water depends on one drawbridge. The same is true, to a smaller degree, of the Wednesday-to-Sunday boat show already underway this week.

Boat Show Week Is the Rehearsal

The 67th Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show runs Wednesday, October 28, through Sunday, November 1. It opened with a noon to 7 p.m. preview day. Hours are then 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Las Olas Marina is one of the show's venues, along with Bahia Mar Yachting Center, Hall of Fame Marina, Superyacht Village, Pier Sixty-Six Marina and the Broward County Convention Center. On the FLIBS map, Las Olas Marina is grouped with Bahia Mar and Hall of Fame. That means a share of show traffic ends up right at the east foot of the Las Olas bridge.

The City of Fort Lauderdale's October 23 traffic advisory says the Fort Lauderdale Beach Park parking lot is completely closed for the show. It also tells motorists on the barrier island and along Las Olas Boulevard to expect delays, and says police are posted throughout the event to direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The advisory doesn't list a separate bridge closure for the show. So the bridge works normally this week, just with more cars on both sides of it.

The bigger change is on the water. Water Taxi has suspended its regular service for the show and is running a separately priced show pass instead:

  • $15 for one day, or $65 for all five days
  • Children under five ride free
  • Boats run noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday

FLIBS also runs complimentary shuttles for ticket holders between the Convention Center, Superyacht Village and Bahia Mar, plus golf carts between Superyacht Village and Bahia Mar. If you take the Water Taxi from the Isles for errands, this week it's working as a boat show service. Regular routes come back after Sunday.

Boat show week shows what happens when a big crowd gathers at the east end of Las Olas. Parade night brings a bigger crowd and adds a bridge that won't come down.

How December 12 Plays Out, Hour by Hour

The 55th Winterfest Boat Parade starts at 6 p.m. Non-motorized boats hold a pre-show at 5:30. The 6 p.m. start was new for 2025 and carries over this year, so last year's timing still applies. The route leaves Stranahan House, heads east on the New River to the Intracoastal, then turns north toward Lake Santa Barbara in Pompano Beach. That takes it up the Intracoastal past the Las Olas waterfront. It takes about two and a half hours to pass any single viewing spot.

The waterway closes well before the bridge does. These are the official times from Winterfest's bridge and waterway schedule, which Winterfest calls approximate:

Time What closes or opens
2:30 p.m. New River closes to non-parade vessels, from the fork near Little Florida to Marker 9
4:00 p.m. Gates open at Las Olas Intracoastal Promenade Park
4:50 p.m. Intracoastal closes from Port Everglades to just south of the Oakland Park bridge
6:00 p.m. Parade starts on the New River; Winterfest's deadline to be east of the Las Olas bridge
6:30 p.m. Las Olas bridge closes to cars; parade expected at the viewing park around now
8:30 p.m. Las Olas bridge reopens to cars

If you keep a boat behind your house, 4:50 p.m. is the time to plan around. After that, only parade boats are allowed on the Intracoastal stretch off Las Olas. Earlier in the day, the bridge opens on its usual schedule, at a quarter past and a quarter to each hour.

Choosing a Side Before 6 p.m.

The timeline leaves three options, and each one depends on where you are when the bridge locks open.

  1. East side, ticketed. Las Olas Intracoastal Promenade Park opens at 4 p.m. with stage entertainment, a Culinary Courtyard, photos with Santa and iHeartRadio commentary once the boats arrive. Every guest gets a chair. Adult tickets are $40, children 12 and under are $30, and children 3 and under are free. Bottles, coolers, outside chairs and pets aren't allowed, and the event goes on rain or shine. The Las Olas Parking Garage at 200 Las Olas Circle is next door, but Winterfest's event page warns parking will be "very limited on Parade night." Coming from the Isles, you need to cross by 6 p.m. and plan to stay east until the bridge reopens at about 8:30.

  2. West side, on the New River. The Riverside Hotel at 620 East Las Olas Boulevard is hosting a Boat Parade Party from 5 to 8 p.m. on December 12. It advertises front-row viewing on the New River, with tickets for riverfront, patio and rooftop areas. The parade starts on the New River and heads east, so boats pass the hotel early in the evening. You don't cross the bridge at all.

  3. Staying home. The route's northbound run up the Intracoastal passes the Las Olas waterfront. What you can see from a given dock or backyard depends on where the house sits, and Winterfest's route description names waterways, not individual isles. The Winterfest app posts updates on the night and lets you vote for a favorite boat from anywhere.

Guests coming in from Isle of Palms, Coral Way, San Marco Drive, Lido, Bontona, Coconut Isle, Isle of Capri, Mola or Royal Plaza Drive should hear about the 6 p.m. deadline when you invite them, not on the night. Those are the isles in the Las Olas Isles Homeowners Association, which represents more than 300 households. A guest who parks on the boulevard at 6:15 expecting to walk over to the park will be stuck on the west side.

The Six Weeks in Between

The bridge question only comes up on December 12. The Winterfest season starts earlier, and most of its other events take place away from the Intracoastal.

  • Thursday, November 19, 6 p.m. Charles Fazzino unveils the 2026 Winterfest poster at Wentworth Gallery in the Shoppes at the Guitar Hotel, 5711 Seminole Way, Hollywood.
  • Sunday, November 22, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Winterfest Family Fun Day at Esplanade Park, 400 SW 2nd Street, with free family activities and entertainment.
  • Tuesday, December 1, 5 to 10 p.m. The 64th Annual Christmas on Las Olas, hosted by the Las Olas Association. Admission is free, with live entertainment on several stages, Santa, food and family activities. The event runs between SE 6th and SE 11th Avenues and includes a holiday marketplace with more than 60 vendors. That's the downtown end of the boulevard. Getting there from the Isles means heading west, so the Las Olas bridge isn't involved.
  • Saturday, December 5, 6 p.m. to midnight. The Winterfest Black Tie Ball at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood.
  • Friday, December 11, 7 to 10 p.m. The invitation-only Grand Marshal Reception at the same Hollywood resort. This year's honorees are country duo LOCASH, Preston Brust and Chris Lucas.

These events move from Hollywood to downtown to the boulevard and back, and none of them depend on the bridge. On the 12th, everything comes back to the Intracoastal. This year's theme is "Party in the U.S.A.," and the city is billing the parade as the grand finale of its America250 celebration. Some Winterfest event pages still carry old publish dates even though they list 2026 details, so check times again in the week before you go.

On December 12, you need to be east of the Las Olas bridge by 6 p.m., and you'll stay there until about 8:30. If you're on the Isles side when it locks open, you'll be watching from the Riverside or from home.

At Waltzer Realty, we keep track of the dates that shape life on the Isles, from boat show traffic to the hour the bridge opens and closes.
