Summer Evenings in Pompano Beach: The Friday Pattern Locals Plan Around

If you have lived in Pompano Beach for more than a season, you already know the beach at noon is not where the neighborhood happens in July. The heat pushes everything into the second half of the day. What you may not have mapped yet is how tightly the good part of that second half is organized around one weekday. Almost every recurring thing worth walking to in Old Town this summer lands on a Friday, and the Fridays are not interchangeable.

The first, second, and third Friday of each month each belong to a different event, in different corners of downtown, with different crowds. Learn the rotation and you have your summer social calendar handed to you.

The Three-Friday Rotation

Here is the shape of it, all within a few blocks of each other:

Old Town Untapped is Pompano's monthly craft brew and arts festival on the first Friday of every month, running 6 to 10 pm at NE 1st Street and N. Flagler Avenue, with live music, a DJ, craft beer, food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, and gallery tours at Bailey Contemporary Arts. It is free for all ages. The parking that works best on a busy night is the lot at City Hall at 100 W. Atlantic Boulevard or the Cultural Center at 50 W. Atlantic.

Second Fridays swap the block party for a slower listen. Music Under the Stars runs the second Friday of every month in downtown Pompano, and this July it carries a special edition tied to the holiday weekend, with The Rumbletones playing the Special Edition of Music Under the Stars.

Third Fridays give you the smallest crowd and the most local flavor. The Backyard Jam Concert Series runs every third Friday in Old Town's backyard, with live music and food, tucked behind Bailey Contemporary Arts near South Bar & Kitchen. If Untapped feels like the whole city showed up, Backyard Jam feels like your street did.

What the Pier Does After Six

The Fisher Family Pier is where visitors go at 11 am. That is not when it is at its best.

The Pompano Beach Fisher Family Pier stretches nearly 900 feet over the Atlantic Ocean with the end shaped like a pompano fish, and it has numerous covered spots to seek shelter from the sun. That shape includes a small detail most first-timers miss: a fisheye cutout that lets you peer into the ocean below and spot sea life. Late afternoon light through that cutout is the shot every local eventually takes.

The economics are worth knowing before you walk out there. Sightseeing at the pier is a free activity that everyone can enjoy. If you want to fish and did not bring gear, the Bait Shop at the entrance rents everything you need for $27, including a fishing license, rod, bait, a bucket, a knife for cutting bait, a towel, and a discounted garage parking rate. The daily fishing fee alone is six dollars. That $27 package is the deal even if you only plan to cast for an hour.

Species-wise, summer changes what is under you. During the summer months, you will find plenty of kingfish, mahi mahi, and wahoo throughout Pompano Beach's offshore waters. Pier casters more realistically hook snook and tarpon closer in. If you have never watched sunset from the north rail with a rod in one hand, the answer is yes, you are still allowed to call yourself a local.

Where Old Town Actually Eats in 2026

The restaurant map in this neighborhood shifted enough over the past 18 months that even long-timers are recalibrating. A few anchors are worth naming.

The most decorated newcomer sits inside the old bank building on NE 1st Street. The Vault occupies the old bank building at 61 NE 1st Street, and the design plays into that theme with a 1920s speakeasy style, right on the Untapped block. It picked up Sun Sentinel 2026 South Florida Favorites Gold for Best New Restaurant, Silver for Best Salad, and Bronze for Best Appetizers.

Sunday brunch at The Vault runs 10:30 am to 3 pm, with dishes like the Banker's Benedict with short rib or shrimp cake and cheesecake-stuffed Roaring French Toast, plus 17-ounce carafes of Bloody Bandit and Money Maker Mimosa.

That is a lot of stagecraft, but the room delivers on it. The original bank vault is still there, and the murals reference the Ashley Gang, who robbed the bank in 1924.

For a rooftop night, Pier 6 Rooftop sits six stories above the Atlantic at 200 N Ocean Boulevard, pairing panoramic ocean views with coastal cuisine and cocktails. Saturdays get louder: Tropic Nights features live DJ sets under the stars, with Latin hits and open-format beats. It is the closest thing to a Miami rooftop that does not require the drive to Miami.

Federal Highway for wine dinners and Saturday music, 26° Brewing & Kitchen for the neighborhood beer garden, Galuppi's for the Sunday afternoon local-band scene, and South Bar & Kitchen when you land at Backyard Jam and want something more sit-down than a food truck.

July 2026: Dates Worth Putting on Your Phone

• Saturday, July 4 — Independence Day begins at 5 pm with Drew from Y100 hosting and DJ Mike Cooley kicking off, followed by live music, and the Fireworks Spectacular begins at 9 pm. Blankets and lawn chairs are fine. Personal fireworks, glass, and alcohol are not.
• Thursday, July 16 — Men At Work at the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre, 7 pm. Colin Hay is also on the bill the same night. If you were in high school in the eighties, you already knew this.
• Saturday, July 18 — A 25-plus vendor treasure-hunting event runs 9 am to 1 pm at the Charlotte Burrie Center, indoors and air-conditioned, which matters in July.
• First Friday — Old Town Untapped, as above.
• Second Friday — Music Under the Stars, special holiday edition.
• Third Friday — Backyard Jam behind Bailey Contemporary Arts.

The Quiet Version of a Pompano Weekend

If a Friday block party is not your speed, the neighborhood has a lower-volume rhythm running underneath. Every third Saturday, Bailey Contemporary Arts hosts an alla prima oil painting workshop, the traditional technique of finishing a painting in a single session. The Hive Black Box Theater runs modern dance classes through the season, though classes pause through summer and resume in the fall.

For anglers who want the big version of what the pier offers, the community-run tournament is the annual fixture. The Pompano Beach Fishing Rodeo has been a two-day tradition since 1965, held every May, with boats heading out of the Hillsboro Inlet. That one is behind us for 2026, but it is worth marking for next spring. The mid-summer alternative on the water is the Extreme Kayak Fishing Tournament's Summer Slam, run out of the same waters.

The through-line here is that Pompano Beach in July does not reward the wander-around approach the way Las Olas does. The good stuff clusters.
